What a concept… live with complete strangers and work for them in exchange for room and board. Oh that can’t be safe… I could be robbed or worse murdered! When I was younger I was taught, “not to talk to strangers” and now I am going to live with them. This is not a good idea, the world is just too dangerous!
Wait one second….
What I am I saying… strangers are awesome!!!! A stranger is defined as “A person whom one does not know or with whom one is not familiar,” so now if I emailed a stranger and they emailed me back are they still a stranger to me? I understand why when I was younger I was told not to talk to strangers but as an adult I think we should be told to “Talk to as many strangers as possible.” I would have never met Mike if I hadn’t talked to that stranger in the bar.
If it weren’t for strangers Mike and I wouldn’t be able to travel like we are now. Currently we have lived with a total of 25 “strangers” and 10 of those “strangers” are now our life long friends. If we never went out on a limb we wouldn’t have these amazing new relationships. To be honest, I wouldn’t have started my photography website (at least any time soon) and who knows if Mike would have written his e-book. These “strangers” inspired us.
You don’t have to travel to invite “strangers” into your life; you can literally approach someone on the street and just start talking to them. It makes life interesting and fun! Of course, you should always be safe but don’t let fear and safety be seen as the same thing. Take chances… meet new people… I promise you, you won’t regret it.
