WHAT INSPIRES US:
“CRYSTAL BALL” BY KEANE

I discovered the band Keane while listening to the Coldplay station on Pandora. Keane is now one of my favorite bands, and if you don’t know them, you’ll soon hear why. I love the strong keyboards and synthesizers, thoughtful and thought-provoking lyrics (provided by songwriter/keyboardist Tim Rice-Oxley), and lead singer Tom Chaplin’s incredible voice.

I first listened to this song while sitting at my desk, in my cubicle, in my office building in Queens. It was around this time in my twenties that corporate life was really getting me down. I felt like I was going through the motions at work…

So much so that it almost felt as if I wasn’t there. Time was passing but I wasn’t truly living.

This song is an anthem for anyone who needs to reassess the life they’re living. You may not have an actual crystal ball to help tell you what you should do next, but you definitely have your intuition. And so often that’s all you need…

Full lyrics to Crystal Ball by Keane:

Who is the man I see
Where I’m supposed to be?
I lost my heart, I buried it too deep
Under the iron sea

Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball
Save us all, tell me life is beautiful
Mirror, mirror on the wall

Lines ever more unclear
Not sure I’m even here
The more I look the more I think that I’m
Starting to disappear

Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball
Save us all, tell me life is beautiful
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Oh, crystal ball, hear my song
I’m fading out, everything I know is wrong
So put me where I belong

I don’t know where I am
And I don’t really care
I look myself in the eye
There’s no one there
I fall upon the earth
I call upon the air
But all I get is the same old vacant stare

Oh, crystal ball, crystal ball
Save us all, tell me life is beautiful
Mirror, mirror on the wall
Oh, crystal ball, hear my song
I’m fading out, everything I know is wrong
So put me where I belong

Mike used to be like a lot of people out there. He led a comfortable yet unfulfilling existence riding a desk in an NYC office building. Luckily, his wife Alisa felt the same yearning for something more…something better…so they quit their corporate jobs to travel the world and enjoy life with each other and their dog Rocky. Now, as one-half of The Carpe Diem Couple, Mike is using his experiences and lessons learned to help others do the same and quit their corporate jobs, follow their dreams, and the live the lives they want.
